San Juan Island School District Expands Griffin Bay School Programsposted 08/27/2007 Below is information on all of the Griffin Bay School Programs. GRIFFIN BAY HIGH SCHOOL Griffin Bay High School provides high school students with an alternative to the traditional high school program. Serving students with a wide variety of learning styles and backgrounds, contract courses and teacher led classes fulfill Washington state graduation requirements. Credits are awarded based on successful completion of studies and activities addressing state standards. For more information, call 378-2211. GRIFFIN BAY VIRTUAL ACADEMY Griffin Bay Virtual Academy is the newest member of the Griffin Bay Alternative School Program of the San Juan Island School District. Griffin Bay Virtual Academy is affiliated with the highly successful K-12 curriculum used by home schooling families and school districts nationwide. The curriculum is all inclusive for grades Kindergarten through Eighth, and encompasses all subjects – math, reading, language arts, science and history. Families receive textbooks, teaching plans and workbooks and all related materials. Access to the on-line school provides the student with interactive lessons, progress tracking, and daily planning. The Virtual Academy strives to provide the best in available home schooling options. PARENT PARTNER PROGRAM Griffin Bay Parent Partner Program has been in existence for over five years. It was started as a cooperative venture between the home schooling community and the school district. It has grown into a program that offers enrichment classes, academic materials and teacher support for home school families. Weekly classes, workshops, and activities such as Art, Science at Friday Harbor Labs, French, and Virtual Field Trips will be on this year’s calendar, as well as actual field trips to local beaches, American Camp, English Camp and the Whale Museum.
