Percich earns All-League position

Friday Harbor junior Erica Percich was voted to the Northwest A League Girls Basketball All-League Second Team and the Wolverines won the conference's Sportsmanship Award.

Senior guard Brianne King of Coupeville was voted Player of the Year. The other First Team members are: Kimmy Clancy, senior forward, Orcas; Megan Sanders, freshman guard, Orcas; Lauren Coate, senior forward, Archbishop Murphy; Lisa Coate, freshman forward, Archbishop; and Erica Lamb, senior guard, Coupeville.

In addition to Percich, the second Team members are:

  • Trisha Terhar, senior guard
    , Archbishop Murphy;
  • Anne Buher, senior center, La Conner;
  • Amy Mouw, senior guard, Coupeville;
  • ackie Lewis, sophomore guard, Concrete.

Bill Kelley of Archbishop Murphy and Greg Oldham of Coupeville shared Coach of the Year honors.


Friday Harbor girls close season with win

Friday Harbor senior Krysta Brem pumped in 14 points and Sissy Carlton scored 11 as the Wolverines ended the season with a 44-35 victory over La Conner Friday, Feb. 7.

"It felt so good," Carlton said of the Northwest A League victory.

"That was a good way to end the season," said Friday Harbor coach Becky Shanks.

Brem, Carlton and other seniors -- Julia Ross and Kelsea Peterman -- led a swarming defense against the Braves.

Sophomore Megan Vynne pitched in 9 points for the Wolverines. Ross contributed 5 points and junior Erica Percich also scored 5 for the Wolverines.

Friday Harbor finished 2-8 in conference play.

Orcas girls romp in final home contest

Freshman Megan Sanders scored a career-high 29 points as Orcas defeated Friday Harbor 61-32 Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003.

"Obviously, we were clicking and they weren't," said Orcas coach Craig Sanders.

The Vikings expanded a 13-8 first-quarter lead to a 29-15 margin at the half.

Katie Wrightsman scored 13 points in her final game before the home-island fans and fellow senior Kimmy Clancy contributed 8. Courtney Breslauer, the Vikings' other senior, chipped in 4.

Hollie Sare, Mai-Lien Tran and Makenna Bauder scored 2 apiece for the Vikings and Lindsey Tellefesen had 1.

Erica Percich led the Wolverines with 8. The other Friday Harbor scorers were: Krysta Brem 6, Sissy Carlton 5, Cassie Brophy 4, Megan Vynne 3, Katie Shanks 2 and Natalie Chevalier 2.
