Wolverine girls snare victory from Lions

Friday Harbor girls basketball team trimmed Concrete 29-25 for its first Northwest A League victory.

"It wasn't pretty, but we'll take it," said Friday Harbor coach Becky Shanks.

Julia Ross led the Wolverines with 12 points. Erica Percich scored 6, Krysta Brem 4, Sissy Carlton 3, Cassie Brophy 2, Megan Vynne 2 and Kelsea Peterman 1.

"Cassie came in the middle of the second quarter and hit a 10-foot shot and things started happening," Shanks said.

Wolverine girls improve in loss

Friday Harbor girls basketball team met three goals in a 38-30 loss at Seattle Lutheran Saturday, Jan. 4.

The Wolverines broke the Saints' press, drove the lane and put up more shots than in previous games. They closed within three points in the final period.

"I was really happy.... We gave them a run for their money," said Friday Harbor coach Becky Shanks.

Julia Ross muscled in 10 points and Erica Percich scored 8. Sissy Carlton contributed 6 points, Ashley Dixon 4 and Megan Vynne 2.

The Wolverines are still lacking their starting guard and "Erica (Percich) did a great job bringing the ball down," her coach said.

"Three freshmen came in and did a good job," Shanks said of Kylie Foster, Sarah Anderson and Katie Shanks.

Coupeville romped by Friday Harbor 61-19 Friday, Jan. 3 in the teams' Northwest A League opener.

Julia Ross tossed in 8 points for the Wolverines. Megan Vynne scored 6 and Erica Percich 5.

Brianne King paced the Wolves with 22 points.
