Wolverine defensive players
'gobble up' Vikings on softball diamond

posted 04/29/03
Sissy Carlton pitched five shutout innings and the senior hurler and the Friday Harbor defense allowed only three hits in a 10-0 home victory over Orcas Friday, April 25, 2003.

"That's the best game in high school Sissy's ever thrown.... Every pitch was where it was supposed to be," said Friday Harbor coach Kevin Carlton.

Carlton and Beth Kelsey, who pitched the sixth and final inning, were backed by some stellar defense. "The last couple of games we've just played tremendous defensive," Carlton said. "They gobbled up everything today."

Lauren Brem and Cassie Brophy each went 2-for-3 for the Wolverines. Megan Vynne and Brandi Miller hit a single apiece.

"Katie Shanks got her first hit of her high school career on her 15th birthday," Carlton said of the pinch-hitting freshman.

Friday Harbor is second in the Northwest A League with a 8- record.
