Wolverine grapplers conquer Crusaders

Friday Harbor's wrestling team recorded second dual victory in as many outings by beating Tacoma Baptist 48-29 Saturday, Jan. 11.

The Wolverines' Timmy Aylward (130), Britt Banry (152), Jason Grone (171) and John Marsh (215) pinned their opponents in the first round. Mike Pretz (140) stuck his foe in the second round and Tyler Cornell (145) pinned his opponent in the third period.

Friday Harbor's Dane Foley and Jim Gossom won in 140-pound division exhibition matches.

Wolverine wrestling team notches first win

Four Friday Harbor wrestlers pinned their Granite Falls opponents Wednesday, Jan. 8, propelling the Wolverines to their first team victory of the season.

"Granite Falls clobbered us earlier in the season," said Friday Harbor coach Gordy Banry. "I knew a lot of that was butterflies. Our guys turned it around."

130 - Timmy Aylward (FH) pinned Hollo, :58, 2nd

135 - Dane Foley (FH) won by forfeit

145 - DJ Chamberlin (GF) dec. Tyler Cornell, 11-2

152 - David Ingraham (GF) dec. Britt Banry, 15-8

160 - Adam White (FH) pinned Stefenson, :29, 1st

171 - Grone (FH) pinned Bennett, 1:01, 1st

189 - McKibben (GF) pinned Winslow Cobos, 1:04, 2nd

215 - John Marsh won by forfeit

275 - Kenworthy (GF) pinned Joey Byrne, :19, 1st.

"Britt and Tyler had really good matches," Gordy Banry said.

In exhibition matches, Pretz pinned his Granite Falls foe in the first round and John Gossom also won.

Marsh, White notch pins

Friday Harbor’s John Marsh pinned Snohomish Junior Varsity’s Richard Johnson’s in the 275-pound division Tuesday, Jan. 7 and Adam White pinned Wesley Kuntz in the 160-pound match.

Snohomish beat the host Wolverines 66-18 in the non-league match.
