Wolverine wrestlers tame Lions

Friday Harbor's wrestling team geared up for the Northwest A/B League Tourney by thumping Concrete 48-31 Monday, Feb. 3. The win -- Friday Harbor's first official victory over the Lions -- capped the best team effort the Wolverines posted since the early 1990s.

John Marsh (215 pounds), Taylor Stimpson (189) and Adam White (152) pinned their Concrete foes.

"This is the best team Friday Harbor's ever seen," said Mike Pretz, a four-year member.

"Our team is going crazy," said Marsh, a senior. "We're breaking records and we're having fun doing it."

"We have a great bunch of guys," Pretz added. "We fight hard together and we play hard together."

"Our seniors are learning to be leaders," said Stimpson.

Friday Harbor coach Gordy Banry is proud of his team's finish -- including three consecutive dual victories, but he realizes Darrington and host Concrete will be competitive Saturday. "We have a ton of work to do before this weekend," Banry said.
