The Vikings trailed 33-31 at the mid-point. "I felt good. We were scoring on them and our defense did a really well in the first half," said Orcas coach Craig Sanders. "Our girls picked them apart," Orcas coach Craig Sanders said. "Almost every player was just nabbing the ball from them." The Vikings also forced the Class 3A Raiders into making numerous turnovers while building a 35-12 first half lead. The Vikings "handled the ball well" and their passes were "dynamite" against the taller visitors, Sanders said. "It's not that we can't handle the ball, we were just making bad decisions," said Orcas coach Craig Sanders. The Mustangs built a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter but the Vikings cut it to 10 by the end of the game. "Makenna Bauder had the game of her life," Sanders said of the sophomore who scored 7 points and yanked down 7 rebounds. "It was nice to get a win but we were not playing as sharp as we can," Orcas coach Craig Sanders said. "Their girls played with everything they had and to the last point too," Sanders said of the Lobos. "They never gave up." Kimmy Clancy paced the Vikings with 33 points, 10 rebounds and 6 steals. The Vikings trimmed the hosts’ lead to 3 points with four minutes to go but Seattle took advantage of defensive miscues. "We got a lot of good looks, but our shots were not dropping," said Orcas coach Craig Sanders. The Viking players wanted to run but their coaches insisted they run their set offense. "We’re trying to work on the things that are hard for us right now," Sanders said. Megan Sanders led the Vikings with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists. Kimmy Clancy contributed 7 points and 9 rebounds. Jenole Peacock had 4 points and 6 rebounds. Courtney Breslauer and Tiffany Holtman scored 2 points apiece. |
