"The game was close. Luckily, our defense came through for us," said Orcas coach Dennis Dahl who improves to 6-6 against the Wolverines. The Vikings and Wolverines also are tied in the inter-island series: 21-21-1. "Things go in cycles," said Friday Harbor coach Richard Ledford. "We'll be catching up one of these days."
Friday Harbor played even with Class A's No. 2 (Tacoma Baptist) and No. 4 teams for more than four quarters. "We'll get better where we're good and strengthen places where we're not as good," Ledford said. This year's contest was close into the fourth quarter as Friday Harbor held fourth-ranked Orcas to one solid offensive drive and two touchdowns. The Vikings took advantage of Wolverine turnovers though, scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter. "It was tough, definitely," said Orcas junior Jordan Gage. "We matched their intensity and made some big defensive plays. "It's one of those games everybody expects us to win but it's still just as hard as any other game," Gage said. "I give a lot of credit to our defensive line," said Orcas senior James Ihlenfeldt. | |

The Wolverines were threatening in the third quarter but Orcas defensive back James Ihlenfeldt picked off a pass. The Vikings went up 13-7 with about two minutes left in the third quarter after Josh Gage picked off a throw. Zac Parkerson punched in the end zone for the Vikings' third touchdown with 7:21 remaining in the fourth quarter. Orcas scored two on the point-after to lead 21-7. Langworthy pounced on a fumbled punt for the Vikings final score. Ryan Harvey scored the PAT. Orcas improves to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in Northwest A League play. Friday Harbor slips to 0-1 and 1-4.
