Operating the Friday Harbor High School Sailing team costs approximately $3,500. Island Rec still provides transportation and insurance for the program but due to budget cuts had to cut its financial contribution. The Sailing Foundation and San Juan Island Yacht Club sponsor the team. A fundraising spaghetti dinner will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004 in the San Juan Island Yacht Club. Tickets are $12/adult and $8/student.

The Sailing Foundation provides and maintains eight Vanguard 15s. Beginning in early March, the team practices two days a week after school at Jacksons Beach. Matches with other schools are held on weekends. Upcoming events include:

Double Handed District Championships at Orcas on April 24 - 25;
Team Racing District Championships are May 1 - 2 at Port Angeles.

Last year the Double Handed District Championships were held off Jacksons Beach with nine teams and over a hundred sailors participating.

The Parrot Head Party at Haley's Bait and Grill in Friday Harbor raised $715 for the team in March. Tax deductible contributions came be sent to the San Juan Island Sailing Foundation and mark it for the High School Sailing Team. The address is
