Friday Harbor racquet squad whips Stanwood JV

Friday Harbor defeated Stanwood 5-0 in boys tennis Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Dylan Gerhardstein won 6-4, 6-3 in No. 1 singles. Friday Harbor’s No. 2 player was victorious 6-1, 6-1 and Jake Byron earned a 6-3, 6-3 win in No. 3 action.

Alex Altman and Dan Herbert defeated their foes 6-3, 2-6 (7-2) in No. doubles play. Kohl Metzger-Bell and Liam Knight won 6-3, 6-1 in No. 2 play.

Friday Harbor boys tennis team opens with sweep

Friday Harbor boys tennis team, in their first match on their renovated courts, swept a Marysville junior varsity squad 5-0 Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002.

"It was a good match to get our feet wet," said Friday Harbor coach Dick Barnes.

Barnes noted his team was "magnaminous" in their win over the less experienced team. "We showed good sportsmanship without holding back. It was a good experience for all," Barnes said.

Freshman Dylan Gerhardstein, playing in the No. 1singles spot in his high school debut, defeated Justin Rumsey 8-3. Senior Drew Allen beat Eric Wike 8-1in No. 2 action and senior Kohl Metzger-Bell edged Kyle Peterson 8-5.

In No. 1 doubles action, senior Alex Altman and junior Dan Herbert defeated Matt Stokes and James Bartley 8-3. Junior Liam Knight and freshman Kooper Westhoven-Koch upended Kolby Woodward and Josh Banal 8-3.
