Wolverine boys tame Tigers

Friday Harbor boys basketball team used a hustling defense to win a home opener Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 against Granite Falls. The Wolverines toppled the Tigers 42-27 for their first victory of the season.

The Wolverines were out of sync offensively but "our defense let us play through that," said Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull.

"I was pleased with the effort," Turnbull said. "Our younger kids gave us some really good minutes."

Matt Cowell led the Wolverines with 11 points. Sean Anderson scored 8 and Tyler Roberts 6. The other Friday Harbor scorers are: Danny Cumming 5, Dylan Gerhardstein 4, Nik Grah 3, Chad Stoddard 2, John Hamilton 2 and Paul Guard 1.

Kevin Williard scored 8 for the Tigers and Kyle Nelson had 7.

Hurricanes quell Wolverines

Mount Vernon Christian went on a 14-4 second-quarter run during a 63-44 non-conference boys basketball victory over Friday Harbor Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003.

Matt Cowell led the Wolverine scorers with 9. The other Friday Harbor scorers are: Tyler Roberts 6, Nik Grah 6, Dylan Gerhardstein 6, Sean Anderson 5, Danny Cumming 4, Brady Ryan 4, Elliot Thomsen 2, Chad Stoddard 2 and Tyler Hart 1.

The Hurricanes went 15-for-21 at the free-throw line while the Wolverines were 5-for-12.
