"Any win this time of year is helpful," Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull. "It was a physical game. We stepped up and made some big plays." The victory avenges an earlier loss at Concrete (3-5) and is the Wolverines’ fifth in six league outings. "They’re pretty focused and pretty excited," Turnbull said of his players. "I’m happy for them. They put a lot of hard work in." The win boosts the Wolverines’ playoff chances. The Northwest A League’s top two finishers automatically enter the Tri-District Tournament. The third-place team plays the Chinook League’s third-place finisher for a berth. The Wolverines host Orcas (0-7) at 2 p.m. Saturday and finish the regular season at La Conner (4-4) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10. Friday Harbor and Concrete played a close game into the fourth quarter. They were tied 46-46 with four and a half minutes to go. The Wolverines took advantage of Concrete attacking the ball on the perimeter. They moved it inside and outscored the Lions 12-4 over the next 3.5 minutes. "The weak side was open and Tyler (Roberts), Chad (Stoddard) and Matt (Cowell) did a good job of passing down to me," Hamilton said. Friday Harbor finished off Concrete by holding on to the ball handling and sinking six consecutive free throws. "They kept their composure when they needed to," Turnbull said. Sean Anderson scored 12 points for the Wolverines. He went 6-for-6 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Roberts contributed 12 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Stoddard scored 8 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Cowell had 6 points and 13 rebounds. Nik Grah and Danny Herbert chipped in 8 points apiece. Joey Peninger led Concrete with 14 points.
