"We practiced a couple days on coming out and being intesne... At the start of the first and third quarters, we followed through with that," said Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull. "I thought getting some early buckets helped out too," he added. With the win, the Wolverines prevented an 0-3 start the Northwest A League. Friday Harbor improves to 1-2 in conference and 7-5 overall. "Whether it was ugly, good or bad, we needed to make sure we got a win today," Turnbull said. | ||

Orcas drops to 0-3 and 3-8. "We just have to work on trusting each other," said Orcas coach Gregg Sasan. "We play hard. The balls just aren’t dropping yet." Four players scored in double figures for the Wolverines. Chad Stoddard led Friday Harbor with 16 points. "Chad played really well," Turnbull said. Sean Anderson and Matt Cowell each contributed 13 for the Wolverines and Tyler Roberts scored 12. Nik Grah had 4. "Matt, Sean, Nik and Tyler did a nice job of setting the tempo for us," Turnbull said of the starters. Danny Herbert, Danny Cumming and Elliot Thomsen chipped in 2 apiece. James Talbot scored 15 points in the first half for Orcas but was held to one free-throw in the second half. David Kimple scored 11 and Miles Murphy had 7. Ryan Harvey pumped in 5. Hunter Easterling and Jess Goffeney each scored 2.

Concrete clips Friday Harbor boysFriday Harbor boys basketball team couldn’t overcome Concrete’s quick start and fell 56-51. "We got out-hustled and out-worked a few times," Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull said. The host Lions went up 17-2 in the first quarter. Friday Harbor closed the gap in the third quarter but couldn’t sustain the rally. "We used so much energy catching up," Turnbull said. |
