Defense keys Wolverine girls win

posted 01/24/04
Before the Friday Harbor-La Conner girls basketball contest Friday, Jan. 23, the Wolverines’ coach Steve Anderson told his players the team that played the best defense would win. The Wolverines responded with one of their best defensive outings of the season and they edged La Conner 36-32.

"Defense. Hard, stifling defense," Anderson said of the key to the home victory.

Both teams entered the contest needing a win. The victory lifts the Wolverines to 2-3 in Northwest A League action. The Braves drop to 0-5.

"We played just a little bit harder than them," Anderson said of the tight contest.

Megan Vynne and Madison Judkins led the Wolverines with 8 points apiece. "Megan was outstanding," Anderson said.

"Madison did a great job rebounding again," Anderson said of the junior who grabbed 11 boards against the Braves.

Natalie Chevalier and Lauren Peterson each scored 6 points for the Wolverines. Annie Bryant, Anderson, Lizzy Herbert and Beth Kelsey chipped in 2 apiece.

"Lizzy was great on defense," Anderson said.
