Unbeaten Archbishop Murphy works for win

Friday Harbor Girls Basketball team put up a tough stand at undefeated Archbishop Murphy Saturday, Jan. 31 but eventually fell 66-39 to the top-ranked Wildcats.

Archbishop Murphy, No. 1 in the Associated Press Class A rankings, improves to 15-0 overall and 6-0 in Northwest A League action. Friday Harbor is 2-5 and 3-12.

The Wolverines ran with the Wildcats in the first half. They trailed 13-8 after the first quarter but scored 15 points to the Cats' 16 in the second period. Archbishop Murphy caught fire in the third quarter though, outscoring the visitors 19-8.

Sarah Anderson and Natalie Chevalier shared top scoring honors for the Wolverines with 8 points. Megan Vynne scored 6, Annie Bryant 5, Madison Judkins 4, Lizzy Herbert 4 and Beth Kelsey 4.


Coupeville girls come back against Friday Harbor

Friday Harbor girls basketball team made Coupeville rally in the fourth quarter for a 38-23 victory Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Coupeville, 5-1 in Northwest A League play, led 16-7 at the half but the Wolverines cut the visiting Wolves' lead to 19-17 at the end of the third quarter.

The Wolves went on an 11-2 run in the first minutes of the third quarter but the Wolverines kept scrapping until the buzzer.

"To hold a team like that to 38 points . . .," Friday Harbor coach Steve Anderson complimented his team.

Madison Judkins shot 5-for-8 from the field and led the Wolverines with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Natalie Chevalier scored 6 points and grabbed 9 boards.

"Natalie had a good game," Anderson said of Chevalier, who a couple blocks down the stretch.

Sarah Anderson contributed 4, Annie Bryant 2 and Pearl Schuman 1.

Friday Harbor is 2-4 in conference action.
