"Shay Hopkins was on fire, she controlled the midfield," McCutchen said. "I'm happy with the play by Fahren Carlson and Anna McClaskey. Natalie Chevalier kept busy being shuffled into several positions." The Wolverines next game is at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 at home against La Conner. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wolverine girls soccer team blanks Evergreen LutheranContributed by Coach Doug McCutchen posted 09/15/03
The Wolverines played with remarkable poise following the tragic death of friend and former classmate Ryan LoBue. Lillan Roquet walked away with two goals. The first coming off a well-placed free kick around the 20th minute. The second goal came on an assist from sweeper Shay Hopkins, who commanded the outstanding defensive effort for the Wolverines. Lizzy Herbert and Fahren Carlson contributed to the defense, demonstrating great composure and hustle. Ayanna Mancuso scored the final goal midway into the second half, an excellent reward for her relentless attack on Evergreen's goal. Mara Lawrence and Elena Porten also contributed brilliant play and effort on the offensive end of the field. Sophomore goalkeeper Anna McClaskey handled everything with an easy grace in her debut in this position. The Wolverines have a busy schedule for the next week, traveling to La Conner and Archbishop Murphy on Tuesday, Sept. 16 and Thursday, Sept. 18 before returning home next Saturday to face Seattle Lutheran at 11:30 a.m.
