Cowell medals in four-way

Friday Harbor’s Matt Cowell competed stroke-for-stroke with a 2003 state champion during a match against Blaine, Mount Baker and Meridian April 14. Cowell shot a 2-over-par 74 on 18 holes at Shuksan Golf Club.

Chris Benz and Paul Guard used 78 strokes apiece for the Wolverines. John Hamilton finished with a 87 and Jared Ludholm had a 100.

Wolverine boys defeat Lobos

Friday Harbor’s boys golf team beat Lopez 196-229 at the Lopez Island Golf Club April 6.

Matt Cowell took medalist honors with a 37. Hank Schuman and Chris Benz each shot a 38. John Hamilton finished with a 41 and Jesse Pouillon had a 42.

David Rypinski led the Lobos with a 41. Josef Muska and Mike Walvatne each shot a 45. Eric Russ tallied a 47 and Jared Holland had a 51.

In girls action, Lopez’s Isabelle Tetu was medalist with a 47. Her teammate Michelle Burson shot a 62. Friday Harbor’ Pearl Schuman had a 48 and Ashley Spendiff a 51.
