Wolverine softball team splits with Lions

Friday Harbor’s girls softball team remained one game out of first place after winning one and losing one at Concrete April 21, 2004.

"Both games were great ball games,"” said Friday Harbor coach Kevin Carlton.

Concrete won the first game 2-1 and Friday Harbor rallied for a 8-2 victory in the second game.

Friday Harbor improves to 6-2 in Northwest A League action. Archbishop Murphy leads the conference with a 7-1 record and Concrete is third at 5-5.

"We’re still right in the hunt for the league title," Carlton said.

Concrete’s Britt Howell struck out 13 batters in the first game. Beth Kelsey pitched six innings for the Wolverines, scattering 6 hits. Both of the Lions’ runs were earned.

Friday Harbor went up 1-0 in the first inning. Lauren Brem, returning from a knee injury, rapped a base hit. "She took the first pitch she faced this season and jammed it out to centerfield for a single," Carlton said of Brem. Shay Hopkins ran for Brem and stole second and third. Brandi Miller drover Hopkins in with a single.

Concrete tied the game in the third inning and went ahead in the sixth.

The teams were tied 2-2 after 6 innings but the Wolverines erupted for 6 runs.

Erica Percich smacked two doubles and and had 2 RBI. Lauren Brem and Mackenzie Raab each drove in 2 runs. Annie Bryant went 2-for-4 and had a triple. Megan Vynne hit 3-for-4 and had an RBI.

Jessica Peacock pitched into the fifth innning for the Wolverines. She scattered 8 hits and fanned four. Beth Kelsey entered the contest with one in the sixth and picked up the win.
