Friday Harbor thumps Archbishop Murphy 60-18

Friday Harbor's wrestlers won their final home match of the season Feb. 2, 2004 decisively, whomping Archbishop Murphy 60-18.

"It was a good meet. It was a lot of fun," said Friday Harbor coach Gordy Banry.

The Wolverines finished their Northwest A/B League dual schedule by winning seven of 10 contested matches with a pin. All of those falls came in the second period and two of the Wolverines' losses went into the third round. " These guys were hoping for a sweep," Banry said.

Friday Harbor went 6-2 in league, with both losses to undefeated Concrete. The Wolverines were 9-4 overall.

The Wolverines defend their conference title at the league championships in Darrington Saturday, Feb. 7.

"Concrete has to be the favorite," Banry said. The coach likes the Wolverines chances though if "we have a few wins where we haven't had them and Concrete has losses where they haven't had them."

The Lions also will be facing bolstered Friday Harbor team -- Britt Banry, Dane Foley are back on the mat and Jacob Foley is looking strong in his first four meets.

The top five finishers from the league tourney advance to the Northwest Regional Tournament at Bellevue Christian Feb. 14. Regional winners and runners-up go on to the Mat Classic in the Tacoma Dome Feb. 20-21.
