Gossom, Foley finish seasons at Mat ClassicStory and photos by Matt Pranger

Gossom started strong, pinning Travis Port of Liberty Bell in one minute, 31seconds. His second match was scoreless in the second round when eventual fifth-place finisher Robert Coates of Willapa Valley and pinned him at 4:26. Gossom was leading Mathew Spradlin of White Pass 4-3 in the second period but Spradlin managed to turn and pin him at 3:35. Spralin also eliminated Gossom last year. "I thought John was going to medal," said Friday Harbor coach Gordy Banry. “He’s had a great season." Eventual sixth-place finisher Kody Kramer of Oroville pinned Foley 34 seconds into the second period of the opening round. In the consolatin first round, Cody Cole of tourney champion Warden beat the Friday Harbor senior by a 16-0 technical fall. Foley and Courtney Jones, who competed in the Mat Classic’s Girls Invitational, are the seniors on the Wolverine squad this year. “It was nice that the two seniors got to be here," Banry said. The Wolverines will be more experienced next season and should be able extremely competitively. "We should have a heck of a crew for next year," Banry said. |
