Wolverines’ late burst buries Lionsposted 02/02/05
"We just haven’t done that all year," Friday Harbor coach Steve Anderson said of Wolverines’ furious finish. "I’ll take that. That was great," Anderson added. The victory over the Lions (4-8 in Northwest A/B League play) puts the Wolverines one win away from postseason action. Friday Harbor (5-7) travels to Coupeville (11-1) for a contest at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4. The Wolverines host La Conner (0-12) at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11. If the Wolverines finish second among the league’s Class A teams (Friday Harbor, Concrete, Coupeville, La Conner), they will advance as the Northwest District’s No. 2 team to the state-qualifying Tri-District Tournament. Friday Harbor will play against a team to-be-determined Feb. 24 at a site to be determined. The Wolverines and Lions entered the final period knotted 43-43. Friday Harbor found the holes Concrete’s defense. "He (Concrete coach Kevin Rensink) changed his press and we just blew it apart," Anderson said. Friday Harbor’s defense also shut down Concrete’s Kassy Taylor, who scored 15 points in the third quarter. The Wolverines held Taylor, who finished with 32 points, to 5 points in the fourth quarter. Madison Judkins led the Wolverines with 19 points. Sarah Anderson, who previously hadn’t reached double figures this year, scored eight of her 16 points in the fourth quarter. Natalie Chevalier pitched in 10. Annie Bryant, Megan Vynne and Alysa Kelsey contributed 8 apiece. Beth Kelsey had 2. The Wolverines controlled the boards. "I can’t say enough about Natalie and Madison," Anderson said. "We’re dominant in the post." |
