Friday Harbor girls blast La Conner in league finaleStory and Photos by Matt Pranger
Seniors Lauren Peterson, Megan Vynne and Lizzy Herbert look forward to the playoffs. posted 02/12/05
The Wolverines, the No. 2 Class A team in their league, next play in the Class A Tri-District Tournament on Feb. 24, 2005 in Coupeville against a team to be determined. Friday Harbor finished league play 7-7, tied for third place. The Wolverines are 10-10 for the season. If the Wolverines win their Tri-District game and one two days later, they will advance to the Class A State Tournament in Yakima March 2-5. Friday Harbor’s win over La Conner caps a strong showing in the second half of the season. The Wolverines won six of their last eight games and beat every team in the league except conference champion Shoreline Christian. “This group is playing very well right now,” said coach Steve Anderson. "I’m excited" about playing at Tri-District, said senior forward Megan Vynne. |

"We’ve finally come together as a team," said senior guard Lizzy Herbert. The Wolverines didn’t suffer a letdown against La Conner, who was winless in league play. "We had to take care of this one," Anderson said. Herbert pumped in 13 points in her final game before the home crowd. Senior Lauren Peterson scored 3 and Vynne had 2. Madison Judkins posted another double-double. The junior post player yanked down 19 rebounds and led the Wolverines with 19 points. Other Friday Harbor scorers were: Natalie Chevalier 9, Kiersten Radden-Wold, Beth Kelsey 5, Pearl Schuman 5 and Alysa Kelsey. All the Wolverines saw action against the Braves, except Sarah Anderson, who helped her school win a second Orca Bowl victory in as many years. .
