Wolverine girls close season at Tri-District

posted 02/28/05
Friday Harbor's girls basketball team finished one its best seasons in several years at the Tri-District Tournament. State-tourney-bound Cascade Christian eliminated the Wolverines 46-25 in the Tri-District Tournament Thursday, Feb. 24 at Coupeville High School.

"They were a pretty good team," Friday Harbor coach Steve Anderson said of the Cougars, who advanced to the state tournament by beating Overlake 45-38 Feb. 26. "We knew we had to have a pretty good game to compete."

"We didn't have our 'A' game going," Anderson added.

The Wolverines finished one victory shy of a winning season. "We were 10-11," Anderson said. "That's twice as many wins as last year."

Friday Harbor won nine of its final 14 games. "We had a great year," Anderson said. "We beat everybody in the league."

Friday Harbor's three seniors all scored in their final high school basketball game: Megan Vynne, Lizzy Herbert and Lauren Peterson each had 2 points.

Madison Judkins led the Wolverines with 7 points. Natalie Chevalier and Sarah Anderson contributed 4 apiece. Annie Bryant and Alysa Kelsey each pitched in 2.

Cascade's Whitney Edgecombe topped all scorers with 14 and Lexi Colton had 10.
