"We needed that," said Friday Harbor coach Steve Anderson, noting the Wolverines suffered several narrow losses this season. "We were close with everybody but Darrington." "It was one of the best games we played all year," said senior Megan Vynne. "We were really intense and that really helped. It feels good to win." "It was nice – well-needed," said senior Lizzy Herbert. "We played awesome," said freshman Alysa Kelsey. With the victory, Anderson, in his second year as the Wolverines head coach, also posted his first win against an Orcas squad. He commended his Wolverines for committing less turnovers. "We’re handling the pressure a lot better," Anderson said. With half his team ailing, Anderson turned to freshmen Alysa Kelsey and and Kiersten Radden-Wold. Kelsey paced led the Wolverines with 12 points. Radden-Wold scored 2 points and moved the ball efficiently against the Vikings’ press. Other scorers for the Wolverines were: Madison Judkins 9, Lauren Peterson 5, Vynne 4, Beth Kelsey 3, Pearl Schuman 2, Herbert 2 and Sarah Anderson 1. Cara Peacock paced the Vikings with 11 points. The other Orcas scorers were: Hollie Sare 5, Tiffany Holtman 4, Melissa Moran-Hodge 4, Aly Taylor 3, Lindsay Curtis 2 and Jenole Peacock 2. Friday Harbor improves to 2-5 in Northwest A/B League action and 5-8 overall. Orcas is 3-4 and 8-5.
