Wolverines girls soccer win a close one

Game summary by Doug McCutchen

posted 09/27/04
Friday Harbor squeaked by a 5-4 against Snohomish County Christian last Tuesday (Sept. 21, 2004). It was the Shay Hopkins show for the Lady Wolverines as she earned her first hat trick of the season and an assist. Hopkins had clear control of the field, distributing passes and earning many superb attempts on goal for the Wolverines.

Friday Harbor once again clearly managed the match, keeping the ball in the Eagles defensive end for at least eighty percent of the match. Elena Porten and Lillan Roquet each had a goal and an assist to round out the Wolverines scoring. The Eagles played with only ten players on the field and no substitutes. Their efforts were led by Nicole Brekka who scored three of their four goals and assisted on the other.

Friday Harbor continues to play excellent soccer with occasional "break downs" on which opponents have been able to capitalize. The defense is looking more assertive and experienced with each match. Natalie Chevalier continues to show great promise as an attacking sweeper as she becomes more comfortable in the role. Goalkeeper Anna McLaskey also is showing great tenacity and improvement as a player and team leader.
