Wolverines girls soccer crush Concrete 7-1

Game Summary by Coach Doug McCutchen

posted 09/30/04
The Lady Wolverines roll on! Tuesday, Sept. 28 the team beat league opponent Concrete 7-1 in their first of three meetings. Friday Harbor came on to the pitch clearly wanting a win. The team effort resulted in their best appearance this season. The first goal of the match came from Shay Hopkins at the 10th minute on an assist from Beth Ware. Eight minutes later Hopkins found Elena Porten unmarked on the outside and she delivered a strong shot past Concrete's keeper. The Wolverines played with intensity and poise, challenging for each free ball and maintaining possession for much of the match.

In the first fifteen minutes of the second half the Wolverines rallied and began a relentless attack on Concrete's goal. Lillan Roquet was rewarded for her hard work with a beautiful pass from Hopkins. As the Wolverine defense reorganized the Lions managed to find a hole and get their sole goal in the game. Just over a minute later Jenny Guard powered a shot past a stunned Concrete goalkeeper, bringing the tally to 4-1. Friday Harbor was far from done as Roquet, Guard, and Ware each earned goals in the next ten minutes.

Lindsey Youngquist and Sarah Anderson led the defensive effort for the Wolverines. Anderson's technical skills are incredible. She has really helped propel the Wolverine defense and set up their offense. Roquet and Guard have both been hungry to find the back of the net and were very excited to net two goals each. The entire team has brought their game to another level. What always sets the Wolverines apart is their teamwork; every game, every success is group effort. Thursday they travel to league rival La Conner, game time 4:30 p.m.
