Friday Harbor girls soccer team was fired up for their match with Snohomish County Christian. The last time the league opponents met was a very close game, even though the Lions were playing short-handed. Friday Harbor had a game plan and stuck to it and won 2-0.

Jenny Guard
Assist: Zoie Guidotti

Shay Hopkins, unassisted

Friday Harbor controlled 80 percent of the match by shutting down the Lion's biggest threats. While Fahren Carlson, Lillan Roquet, and Natalie Chevalier were primarily responsible for this it should be noted that it was a team effort that led to their success.

The first goal in the match came from a stellar shot by Jenny Guard who was assisted by Zoie Guidotti from the outside right. For the next ten minutes it looked like Guard was ready to take on the Lion's single handed, though she was not rewarded for her efforts. Outside defenders Sarah Anderson, Lindesey Youngquist, and Kate Fyrquist each played a brilliant match helping cover for each other and finding ways to thread passes directly to the offense.

In the second half Shay Hopkins again demonstrated her incredible touch on the ball as she beat three players and put another mark on the scoreboard for Friday Harbor with a shot from over thirty yards out. Bystanders heard even the referee exclaim "Wow!...now that was a beautiful goal!"

Tierney Cunningham's effort helped propel the Wolverines as she hustled up and down the field supporting both the offensive and defensive games. The MVP of the match has to be Anna Mclaskey who came up with four huge saves for Friday Harbor in the last twenty minutes of the match. She single handedly stopped two break-aways and punched at least two other shots free of the goal.
