Sophomore striker Jenny Guard did not waste any time in testing Seattle Lutheran's goalkeeper as she narrowly missed three opportunities in the opening minutes of play. At the 13th minute Lillan Roquet delivered a beautiful pass to Guard who neatly put the ball in the back of the net. Less than a minute later Seattle Lutheran evened the score after an unintentional handball resulted in a penalty kick. In the final moment of the half (literally) a Seattle Lutheran attacker fouled Tierney Cunningham in the box and Hopkins (who had entered the game in a defensive position) easily put the Wolverines 2-1 going into the half. |

The second half got off to a roaring start as Junior Natalie Chevalier took an assist from Zoie Guidotti, beat her defender and ripped a shot past Seattle Lutheran's keeper. Three minutes later Chevalier did it again without help as she trundled the ball through Seattle's defense and into their goal. The physical intensity of the match grew as both sides fought hard to win each free ball. Freshman Kate Fyrquist's effort on defense inspired the whole team to play with intensity. Lindsey Youngquist looked strong in a new position as outside midfielder. She and Guard had many wonderful passing combinations...a duo to watch in future games. Seattle's third goal came on an unlucky deflection off a Friday Harbor defender that barely trickled into the goal. Both sides played with incredible vigor up to the closing moments of the game. Seattle Lutheran's final goal came in the last breath of the match as Friday Harbor's keeper bobbled a ball and subsequently tackled by an attacker who ran the ball into the goal. This is the third earned win for Friday Harbor in a row. They are currently in second place in the NW A league and a strong contender for a playoff spot. Thursday we travel to Concrete. |
