Friday Harbor girls soccer team beats Coupeville 4-0

Game summary by Doug McCutchen

posted 10/26/04
Thursday the Lady Wolverines traveled to Coupeville, beating the Wolves 4-0. Clearly the team had some drive for a win after their close loss to La Conner earlier in the week. Friday Harbor scored early on a clean shot by Elena Porten. The goal set Porten in motion as she took control of the match netting a second goal off a corner kick ten minutes later.

At halftime the score was 2-0 for Friday Harbor. The Lady Wolverines came out of half time with a bang as they transitioned from the kick off in three passes to the Wolves goal where Lillan Roquet found Shay Hopkins for their third goal just fifteen seconds into the second half.

Scoring:

10th Elena Porten
Jenny Guard Assist

13th Porten,
Lillan Roquet Assist

41st Shay Hopkins,
Roquet Assist

70th Hopkins, Unassisted

Friday Harbor began to show the form which which they will carry into the playoffs, creating beautiful passing combinations and earning shot after shot on goal. Coupeville's goalkeeper came up with many huge saves and held off the Wolverines until the final ten minutes of the match when Shay Hopkins netted her second goal at the 60th minute.

Freshman utility player Beth Ware stepped into goal during the second half of the match, playing an admirable game. Elena Porten anchored Friday Harbor's effort at center midfield, supporting play at all ends of the field.

Tuesday Friday Harbor travels to Snohomish County Christian.
