Friday Harbor squeaks by Coupeville

Elena Porten doubled in Friday Harbor softball teams only runs in a 2-0 victory over Coupeville Tuesday, April 26.

"We snuck one out," said Friday Harbor coach Kevin Carlton. "Coupeville always plays us well when they come here."

Friday Harbor improves to 4-1 in Northwest A/B League play and 6-1 overall.

Carlton said his team entered the contest "flat" after 10-running Darrington and University Prep over the weekend. "It was a little bit of an eye-opener,"Carlton said.< /p>

Coupeville limited Friday Harbor to four hits but a couple key raps helped lift the Wolverines. In the bottom of the sixth inning. Jenny Guard singled in the sixth inning. With one out, Megan Vynn reached base on balls. Guard and Vynne advanced to second and third before Porten smashed her double.

Friday Harbor’s coach said the experience should help if the Wolverines. "It’s good to have a tight ball game," Carlton said.


Friday Harbor rips University Prep

Jenny Guard went ripped three singles as the Friday Harbor softball team walloped University Prep 11-1 Saturday, April 23. Friday Harbor loaned the visitors two players for a second game but the hosts blanked the Pumas 13-0.

"We hit the ball well, which is very encouraging," said Friday Harbor coach Kevin Carlton.

Natalie Chevalier tripled and rapped two singles for the second game in a row. Lauren Brem doubled hit two base hits. Elena Porten popped two doubles and Katie Shanks drilled a triple and a single.

The Pumas only had a couple of extra players at the start of the game and then lost two. The catcher and first baseman collided while attempting to catch a pop-up. The first baseman left in an ambulance. Carlton loaned a pitcher and third baseman and a second game was played.
