11 Wolverine wrestlers advance to Regional meet

Eleven Friday Harbor wrestlers finished in the top four of their weight classes at the Class A/B District 1 Tournament Saturday, Feb. 5 in Darrington and advance to the Northwest Region Tourney Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 at Bellevue Christian High School.

Concrete won the district meet with 372.5 points and Friday Harbor placed second with 214. La Conner was third and Darrington fourth.

Britt Banry (160 pounds), Jason Grone (171) and John Gossom (189) were District champions.

Carl Schmidt (125), James Ausilio (135), Adam Champlin (140), Jim Gossom (152) and Peter GrosJacques (215) placed third.

Danika Britian (119), Kyle Miller (130) and Michael GrosJacques (145).

Friday Harbor likely would have advanced one more wrestler but senior George Myers broke his foot the day before in practice.

The top two regional finishers advance to the State Tournament -- Mat Classic XVI -- in the Tacoma Dome Feb. 18-19, 2005.
