Orcas football team thumps Asotin

Story by Matt Pranger

posted 11/15/04
A 441-mile trip from San Juan County to the southeast corner of Washington proved fruitful for the Orcas Island football team: The Vikings stomped Asotin 41-0 Saturday, Nov. 13 in the First Round of the Class B-11 State Tournament.

Orcas, who also traveled to Centralia for a 52-14 preliminary-round victory over Willapa Valley, won't be traveling 1,250 miles this week: The Vikings meet Lind-Ritzville (10-0) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 at Mount Vernon High School.

Senior Hunter Easterling notched his second five-touchdown game of the season and senior quarterback McLane Stone threw four touchdown passes.

Easterling's 1-yard run into the end zone in the first quarter gave the Vikings their winning margin. Tristian Savell booted the PAT. McLane Stone and Easterling connected on a 38-yard touchdown pass later in the period. Savell kicked the extra point and the Vikings led 14-0.

Stone and Easterling hooked up again on a 47-yard touchdown pass play in the second period and the Vikings were up 20-0 at halftime.

Easterling scored his fourth touchdown on a 56-yard pass from Stone in the third quarter. Savell kicked the PAT and the Vikings increased their lead to 27-0.

Later in the third, Stone tossed his fourth touchdown pass -- a 7-yarder to Miles Murphy. Savell hit the PAT.

In the final period, Easterling dashed 60 yards for his fifth and the Vikings' sixth touchdown. Josh Mayson added the PAT.
