Wolverines first in singles, doubles at own tourney

Keller McNairy won the singles title and Friday Harbor teammates Dylan Gerhardstein and Josh Lehr finished in doubles action at the Friday Harbor Invitational Tournament Saturday, Sept. 24.

In the singles championship match, McNairy trimmed Drew Bosman, Lynden’s No. 1 player, 7-5 in the first set. Bosman rebounded in the second set, winning 6-1.

Friday Harbor coach Dick Barnes, said, "(Bosman) steps on the gas and just guns it...I told Keller to try to withstand the onslaught and get ahead."

Heeding his coach’s advice, McNairy blanked Bosman in the chamipionship 6-0.

"It was fun. That was probably the best guy I played all year," McNairy said.

McNairy drew a first-round bye and beat Lynden’s No. 2 player Seth Swanson 8-2.

Lehr and Gerhardstein defeated Lynden’s No.l 1 team of Ryn Jewett and Clay Pehl 6-1, 6-2. The Wolverines No. 1 squad opened the tourney with a bye. They beat Ben Hamming and Lane VanWeerdhuizen 8-0 in the semiifnals.
