The Wolverines and and Braves are 6-1 in conference play and are tied for first place. Both teams are 7-3 overall. Friday Harbor came within a couple of feet of tying the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, Michael Knowled slapped a hard-to-handle hit to third and Matt Rothlisburger reached base on an error. Jesse Woodruff, the Wolverines top hitter, lifted a single down the right line. Knowles scored and Rothlisberger was sent home. The Braves’ right fielder gunned down Rothlisberger at home, terminating the Wolverines’ rally. La Conner went up 3-0 in the first inning off three hits and the Braves added another run in the third on a home run. Friday Harbor scored one run in the bottom in the fourth inning. Forrest Crawford reached base on an error and advanced to third on Richie Ochoa’s single. Tim Cumming drove Crawford home on a sacrifice fly. The Wolverines turned a couple of defensive gems in the top of the sixth. Right fielder Matt Rothlisberger robbed a Brave of an extra-base hit by running down a ball near the fence and making an over the shoulder catch. Crawford, a second baseman, dropped to his knees and gloved a bullet. Friday Harbor cut La Conner’s lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Crawford went to first on a dropped third strike and scored on Ochoa’s double. |
