Friday Harbor sailed by Highline 48-0 Friday, Sept. 9. The Wolverines scored all of their points in the first half and the team’s reserves held the Class 3A Pirates scoreless in the second half.

The Wolverines, ranked No. 3 in WashingtonPreps.com’s Class 1A poll, improve to 2-0. (The rankings are compiled by a statewide network of coaches, analysts, sportswriters, and other high school football experts.) After two day games, they return to night play Friday, Sept. 16 when they host Class 2A Granite Falls at 7 p.m.

Trent Roberts scored three touchdowns for the second time in as many games and David Ahrenius bulled into the end zone twice.

Roberts started the scoring with a 20-yard run with 7:05 to go in the first quarter. Dwight Ware booted the first of six extra points.

A long pass from Cole Franklin to Jesse Woodruff and solid run by Tyler Hart set up the Wolverines’ second touchdown -- a 2-yard dive by Ahrenius with 3:13 remaining in the first period.

Franklin tossed the ball 22 yards to Roberts in the end zone for Friday Harbor’s third touchdown. The Wolverines led 21-0 with 25 seconds left in the first quarter.

Ahrenius plunged into the end zone from two yards out eight minutes before the half. The Pirates blocked the PAT.

Franklin threaded the ball 20 yards to Woodruff in the end zone for the Wolverines’ fifth touchdown with about six minutes to go in the second quarter. Hart scored on a nine-yard run less than a minute later.

Roberts picked off a pass and returned it 30 yards for Friday Harbor’s final touchdown.
