Friday Harbor softball team closes league play with victoryposted 05/10/06
"We played really, really, really well," said Friday Harbor coach Kevin Carlton. "We hit, pitched and fielded well." Senior Kelsey earned the win and freshman Brooke Jangard ripped the ball over the left fielder's head for "a birthday triple," Carlton said. Kiersten Radden-Wold had strong game at the plate and Sunny Pascoe performed well in the field, their coach said. Friday Harbor seniors Natalie Chevalier, Katie Shanks, Sarah Anderson and Beth Kelsey made their final appearance on their home field. "They are four of the best seniors I've ever coached," said Carlton said. "They are great leaders and great kids. We're going to miss them." The Wolverines finished league play in second place with a 7-3 record. They are 13-5 overall. Friday Harbor finishes the regular season with a non-league doubleheader against Bellevue Christian at Hidden Valley Sports Park. The Wolverines and Vikings are scheduled to meet again on Wednesday, May 17 at the same site. The winner of that playoff game will advance to the state tournament. Friday Harbor softball places second at Blaine TourneyFriday Harbor’s softball team went 2-1 at the Blaine Invitational Saturday, April 22 and finished runner-up to a Class 4A school. Friday Harbor catcher Natalie Chevalier and pitcher Beth Kelsey were voted all-tournament selections. "I’m really proud of the kids," said Friday Harbor coach Kevin Carlton. The Wolverines opened the tourney with an 8-0 victory over Chief Sealth. Beth Ware earned the win by fanning eight of nine batters. Kelsey notched a win after the Wolverines squeaked by Blaine 4-1 in a semifinal. "If we play like that, we can play with anyone," Carlton said. Carlton emptied the benches in the championship and lost 19-0 to Burlington-Edison. |
