Four Friday Harbor senior girls are ecstatic about making an annual trek to an oasis in the middle of Washington State: By defeating Bellevue Christian 4-2, Wednesday, May 17 in a seeding game, the veteran Wolverine softball players earned their fourth consecutive trip to the Class A State Tournament in Moses Lake.

"Four years in a row," said senior catcher Natalie Chevalier. "It's so cool to go in my senior year."

"I'm so excited," said senior right fielder Katie Shanks. "I love to go to Moses Lake."

"I'm really happy to be going back to state," said senior pitcher Beth Kelsey.

Sarah Anderson also is making her fourth trip to the state fastpitch tourney.

Friday Harbor next plays in the Class A Tri-District Tournament in Mount Vernon Saturday, May 20. The Wolverines meet Cedar Park Christian in a semifinal game at Skagit Play Fields. If they win that they will play for the Tri-District title against the winner of the Concrete-Cascade Christian semifinal.

Friday Harbor led 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning against Bellevue Christian. The Vikings added a run and had runners on second and third with two outs. Beth Kelsey fanned the final batter for her eighth strikeout to get out the jam and record the win.

"It was a great, great ball game," said Friday Harbor coach Kevin Carlton.

The Wolverines scored first in the contest. In the top of the third inning, Kiersten Radden reached base on balls. She advanced to third on Jenny Guard's bunt and scored Chevalier's sacrifice fly.

Sunny Pascoe bunted for a base hit and went to third when Guard hit into a fielder's choice. Pascoe scored on Chevaliers single to right field.

The Vikings added a run in the bottom of the fifth to trim the Wolverines' lead to 2-1.

Friday Harbor went up 4-1 in the sixth after Beth Ware reached base on balls, Anderson singled, the Vikings made on error on Beth Kelsey's bunt and Alyssa Kelsey's sacrifice.
