Wolverines win season-opener

Friday Harbor’s Chad Stoddard scored 10 of his 16 team-high points in the first quarter of the Wolverines’ 63-58 season-opening victory over Cedar Park Christian Friday, Dec. 9.

The Wolverines built a 10-point lead in the first quarter and a 12-point lead in the final period but they couldn’t shake the visiting Eagles. Cedar Park’s Riley Bettinger, who led all scorers with 18, hit four three-pointers to keep the Eagles in pouncing distance.

Friday Harbor’s stiff defensive pressure thwarted Cedar Park’s late rally in the final minutes. The Wolverines led 61-58 with 24 seconds to go and the Eagles were working the ball around for a three-point shot to tie the game. Friday Harbor’s Tyler Hart swiped a pass and sank two free throws with four seconds remaining to clinch the victory.

Friday Harbor’s Paul Guard scored eight of his 13 points in the second quarter. John Hamilton contributed 12 points and grabbed some key rebounds in the final minutes. Dylan Gerhardstein chipped in 11 points. Hart hit seven of eight free throws. Robbie Roe scored 4.
