Wolverine boys seeking undefeated league season

Friday Harbor High School boys basketball team beat Concrete 66-42 Friday, Feb. 10. If the Wolverines beat Coupeville in their final regular season game they will clinch an undefeated league season. The game is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 at Turnbull gym.

The Wolverines improve to 13-0 in Northwest A/B League play. The Lions drop to 0-13.

John Hamilton led the Wolverines with 16 points. Tyler Hart scored 14 and Chad Stoddard pumped in 12. Dylan Gerhardstein and Matt Rothlisberger scored 7 apiece. Brock McNairy and Eric Rothlisberger each had 3 and Tommy Fowler pitched in 2.

Wolverine boys clinch league;
district and state tourney berths

Friday Harbor boys basketball team beat Shoreline Christian 55-47 Feb. 4, 2006, clinching first-place in the NW A/B League. The Wolverines are the #1 seed at tri-district and have earned a berth at the Class 1A state tournament.

"It's a great feeling," said senior Chad Stoddard. "We are excited but we have to get better over the cours of the next few weeks. Teams at state are going to be good. It's pretty sweet."

"It's kind of cool. Basketball is my favorite sport," said senior Dylan Gerhardstein, who will be making his first trip in any sport to a state tournament.

Senior John Hamilton noted "team chemistry" and "hard work," paid off with a trip to Class 1A's Sweet Sixteen. "We really deserve it this year," said senior John Hamilton

"It's a neat accomplishment for the kids," said Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull of the Wolverines first state berth in 15 years.

"Hopefully they can keep moving forward," Turnbull said. "We have some unfinished business still."

Friday Harbor overcame cold shooting in the victory at Shoreline Christian. The Crusaders led 28-27 at the half but the Wolverines outscored them 28-19 in the second half.

Stoddard led the Wolverines with 17 points. Gerharstein scored 13 and Hamilton chipped in 12. Friday Harbor's other scorers were Brock McNairy 5, Tyler Hart 4, Eric Rothlisberger 2 and Tommy Fowler 2.

The Wolverines travel to Concrete (0-12) Friday, Feb. 10 and close the regular season at home against second-place Coupeville (9-3) Feb. 14. "Hopefully we can still with an undefeated season in league," Gerhardstein said.


Wolverine boys blow by Braves 66-46

Friday Harbor boys basketball team built a 20-point second-quarter lead during a 66-46, home-court victory over La Conner Friday, Feb. 3. Chad Stoddard scored 11 of his game-leading 19 points in the second period for the Wolverines, who extended their Northwest A/B League record to 11-0.

"As a team we came out with a great effort ane we never let down," said Stoddard, who went 7-for-7 at the free-throw line in the second period.

John Hamilton and Tyler Hart scored 11 points apiece for the Wolverines. Brock McNairy and Andrew Scheffer chipped in 7. Other Friday Harbor scorers were Eric Rothlisberger 4, Dylan Gerhardstein 3, Matt Rothlisberger 2 and Tommy Fowler 2.
