Friday Harbor basketball team draws late state game against Napavine

Friday Harbor boys basketball team (17-4) will meet Napavine (16-9) at 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 in the opening round of the Class 1A State Tournament in the Yakima Valley SunDome. The winner of that game will face the winner of a contest between Bellevue Christian (20-2) and Toledo (22-2) at 9 p.m. Thursday. The losers of the first round games play at 2 p.m. Thursday. Cougars nip Wolverines in final seconds

Cascade Christian gained its first lead of the second half when Luke Breton Van Groll sank the winning bucket with six seconds to go in a 60-58 victory over Friday Harbor Saturday, Feb. 25 at Mountlake Terrace High School. The Cougars (17-5) finished third in the Class 1A Tri-District Tournament and the Wolverines (18-4) placed fourth.
Friday Harbor trailed 18-14 after the first period but led 32-29 at the half and 46-42 going into the final period. The Wolverines held a 7-point lead with less than two minutes to go. Cascade took advantage of a Friday Harbor turnover, personal foul and a technical foul to tie the game.
"We just didn’t finish real well," said Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull.
Tyler Hart paced the Wolverines with 13 points. John Hamilton and Brock McNairy contributed 12 points apiece. Chad Stoddard scored 9 and Dylan Gerhardstein pitched in 8. Eric Rothlisberger had 4.
Cascade’s Jordan Williams led all scorers with 21. Ryan Everett scored 16 for the Cougars and Nate Bills had 14.
Vikings vanquish Wolverines to Tri-District consolation final
Bellevue Christian outscored Friday Harbor 20-10 in the fourth quarter of a 60-50 victory Thursday, Feb. 23 at Cedar Park Christian High School. The Vikings (19-2) advanced to the Tri-District Tournament Championship Saturday, Feb. 25 against Overlake Christian and the Wolverines (17-3) met Cascade Christian in the consolation final.
"I was really proud with our players effort and their intensity,” said Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull.
John Hamilton led the Wolverines with 17 points. Tyler Hart chipped in 13 and Chad Stoddard contributed 11. Brock McNairy pitched in 4. Dylan Gerhardstein scored 3 and Eric Rothlisberger had 2.
"Chad did a good job on defense," Turnbull said.The Wolverines held Jeffrey Downs -- one of the top scorers in Class 1A -- to 16 points but the Vikings’ Evan Haines pumped in 18 to lead all scorers. Nate Hendricks scored 14 for Bellevue Christian.
