Friday Harbor girls basketball team persevered through a poked eye and broken teeth and came two points shy of upsetting Shoreline Christian Friday, Jan. 6, 2006. The outscored the visiting Crusaders 12-2 in the fourth quarter of the 41-39 loss.

"This is as good as a win in my book," Friday Harbor coach Steve Anderson said of the loss to Crusaders.

Shoreline Christian improves to 6-0 in Northwest A/B League action and 11-1 overall. Friday Harbor is 2-2 and 5-5.

Friday Harbor, who lost a player to extracurricular code violations, trailed by 16 points but started rallying in the second half. The Wolverines' rally didn't slow after Natalie Chevalier attempted to take a charge and hit the floor teeth-first. Two of her front teeth broke off. The teeth pieces were scooped up and then reattached by a local dentist.

The Wolverines also lost guard Kiersten Radden's services for a while after she was poked in the eye. Radden returned and scored 4 of her 8 points in the final minutes. She also made a steal.

Pearl Schuman also swiped the ball down the stretch and canned a three-pointer with less than two seconds in the game.

Alysa Kelsey scored 5 of her 10 points in the fourth quarter. Chevalier scored 8 points and Sarah Anderson contributed 7. Schuman pitched in 5 and Annie Bryant had 1.

Friday Harbor plays at La Conner Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2006.
