Showdown Tuesday between
Wolverine girls and Coupeville

The Wolverine girls basketball team beat Concrete 62-55 Friday, Feb. 10, 2006. The win means the Friday Harbor girls will battle Coupeville on Valentines Day to tie for first place in league. Tipoff is at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 in Turnbull Gym. If the Wolverines win, there will need to be a playoff game to determine first place. The team that places first in league gets the top seed for the Tri-District playoffs and an automatic seed to the state tournament.


Shoreline Christian girls defeat Friday Harbor

Shoreline Christian completed the Northwest A/B League play 14-0 by beating Friday Harbor 48-28 Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006.

Friday Harbor drops to 8-4, a game back of Coupeville. The Wolverines play at Concrete (5-7) Friday, Feb. 10 finish at home against Coupeville on Tuesday, Feb. 14. If the Wolverines beat Concrete and Coupeville, they likely will finish tied for second place with the Wolves. That would force a playoff to determine the No. 1 and No. 2 District 1 seeds to the Class 1A Tri-District Tournament.

Natalie Chevalier led Friday Harbor with 9 points against Shoreline Christian. The other Wolverine scorers were: Sarah Anderson 7, Beth Kelsey 5, Alysa Kelsey 3, Pearl Schuman 2, Annie Bryant 1 and Sarah Heeren 1.

The Wolverines are 11-7 overall.


Friday Harbor girls quell La Conner 46-28

Friday Harbor girls basketball team improved to 8-3 in the Northwest A/B League with a 46-28 home-court win against La Conner. Natalie Chevalier led the Wolverines with 12 points.

"We had a nice performance out of Sarah Heeren," Friday Harbor coach Steve Anderson said.

Heeren cut her a leg after it went through a window in a door at the gym during practice five days earlier. She received 10 stitches. "It made me work harder because I didn't want it to take me down," the junior guard said.

Natalie Chevalier led the Wolverines with 12 points. Kiersten Radden pumped in 9 and Pearl Schuman had 6. Annie Bryant contributed 4 and Alysa Kelsey chipped in 1.

The Wolverines sank 12 of 18 free throws.
