Orcas volleyball #2 seed to state

posted 11/05/05
On Friday and Saturday, the Vikings volleyball team battled the front runners of Districts 1, 2 and 3 for one of four spots into the State Tournament. They won two of their three games at Tri-District B Volleyball Tournament in Edmonds and are now the #2 seed to state.

In the first round Orcas beat Evergreen Lutheran 3-0 (25-18; 25-22, 27-22). They next faced Shoreline Christian, a team they lost to twice during the regular season. Orcas Athletic Director Jaylin Peacock said, "Saturday mornings match vs our own leagues #2. Shoreline Christian was truly a battle. Shoreline took the first two games but our Lady Vikings did not give up, they came back and took the last three games to win the match and move us into the Championship round vs our own leagues #1 Mount Vernon Christian."

The Vikings faced Mount Vernon Christian to determine the #1 and #2 seeds for state. Mount Vernon Christian ended up #1 and the Vikings #2.

The Vikings will face the #2 seed from District 5 in the first round at state on Nov. 11 in Spokane. If they win that game, they would face either Dist 6 #2 seed or Dist 4 #1 seed in the quarter-finals.

Tri-District play is double elimination. Once teams lose two games, they are out. If the Vikings lose to Shoreline Christian, they would need to win their next two games to end up at state as either the #3 or #4 seed.
