Orcas Island's boys basketball team topped Lopez Island 78-42 in a non-conference contest Tuesday, Jan. 10.


Wolverines beat Vikings after slow start

Orcas boys basketball team zipped to a 13-2 lead against Friday Harbor Tuesday, Dec. 13 but the visiting Wolverines kept composed and went on for a 73-58 victory.

"I was really pleased with the way we didn’t panic," said Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull.

Friday Harbor led 29-28 at the half but outscored the Vikings 24-16 in the third quarter.

"We didn’t box out in the second half," said Orcas coach Gregg Sasan. "They came out shooting."

Friday Harbor’s Chad Stoddard led all scorers with 21. Tyler Hart scored 14, including three treys in the third quarter and three consecutive free throws in the final period.

Other Wolverine scorers were: Dylan Gerhardstein 9, Robbie Roe 8, Brock McNairy 6, John Hamilton 6, Paul Guard 5 and Eric Rtothlisberger 4.

Miles Murphy paced the Vikings with 16 and Andy Nigretto had 14. Winslow Moran-Hodge scored 10. Patrick Doherty contributed 8. Jess Goffeney had 7 and Willie Clancy 4.Friday Harbor improves to 1-0 in the Northwest A/B League and 2-1 overall. Orcas is 3-2 overall.
