posted 1/21/2006
Freshman Angela Gossum earned her first varsity victory as Friday Harbor completed a sweep of La Conner Thursday, Jan. 19. The Wolverines topped the Braves 34-9 in the road dual.

Gossom posted an 18-3 technical fall over Kay Wilkins in the 125-pound match. "It felt great," Gossom said of the win.

"We bumped Angela up a class and she did a hell of a job," said Friday Harbor coach Gordy Banry. "She looked pretty good out there."

After losing to La Conner’s Max Sible at Friday Harbor five days earlier, Jordyn Taylor (130) thumped the 130-pound Brave 12-4.

Kyle Miller (140) beat the buzzer, pinning Tyler Moreau with one second remaining in the first round of the bout.

Michael GrosJacques (145) threw Matt Burligame to the mat and pinned him in 2:13. Burligame suffered a concussion.

Pete GrosJacques (215) took only 15 seconds to pin his foe.

Paul Espinoza (172) dominated Pat Peth, pinning him in 54 seconds.

Jim Gossom (160) pinned Jay Deyo in 5:08.

Mike Fyrqvist (189) battled Corey Wilbor to a 7-7 tie in regulation but Wilbor recorded a takedown for the overtime victory.
