Gossom takes 160-pound title at Lions' invite

Friday Harbor's Jim Gossom won the 160-pound title and Jacob Foley placed second in the 135-pound bracket at the Concrete Invite Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006.

Kyle Miller (140) and Carl Schmidt (119) finished fourth and Paul Espinoza (160) placed fifth at the 10-team tournament.

Concrete continues mat domination at Friday Harbor

Concrete officially won a Northwest A/B League dual meet at Friday Harbor before the contest started after the referee scheduled to officiate the meet did not show.

With former Friday Harbor grappler Britt Banry officiating, the teams wrestled exhibition bouts and the Lions won all but one match. Friday Harbor's Jim Gossom pinned his Lion foe, preventing the shutout.

Friday Harbor's Jacob Foley, Jim Gossom and Pete GrosJacques pinned their Darrington opponents in a 42-18 loss in the Loggers' house Tuesday, Jan. 24.

Foley stopped Joe Dolf with two seconds to go in the second period of the 135-pound bout. Gossom stuck Paden Newberry 72 seconds into their 160 contest. GrosJacques pinned Joe Bill with 11 remaining in the first round of the 215 match.

Results are:

  • 119 - Rich Groth (Darrington) pinned Carl Schmidt, 2:31.

  • 125 - Cody Bryson (D) pinned Angela Gossom, 1:43.

  • 130 - Stormee Brown (D) decision Jordyn Taylor, 13-6.

  • 135 - Jacob Foley (FH) pinned Joe Dolf, 3:58.

  • 140 - Jason Caveness (D) decision Kyle Miller, 11-4.

  • 145 - Nick Wolf (D) pinned Mike GrosJacques, 1:33.

  • 152 - Nathan Cave (D) pinned Tyler Brow, 1:51.

  • 160 - Jim Gossom (FH) pinned Paden Newberry, 1:12.

  • 171 - Conner Rounds (D) decision Paul Espinoza, 10-1.

  • 189 - Matthias Metzger (D) pinned Mike Fyrqvist.

  • 215 - Pete GrosJacques (FH) pinned Joe Bill, 1:49.
