Wolverine baseball team topples Loggers

posted 03/28/2007
Designated hitter Seiji Boku drove in 3 runs on 3 hits as Friday Harbor's baseball team overcame Darrington 6-2 Tuesday, March 27.

Cole Franklin knocked in 3 runs on 2 singles for the Wolverines in the away game. Richie Ochoa smacked 2 base hits and Forrest Crawford singled.

Even the Wolverines who didn't reach base made solid contact. "Everybody was hitting the ball hard," said Wolverine senior Matt Rothlisberger.

Ochoa earned the win. He pitched 5 innings, gave up 2 earned runs, scattered 7 hits, walked 3 and struck out 4. Rothlisberger did not allow a hit or run in two innings of relief.

Anacortes edges Friday Harbor on diamond

Friday Harbor out-hit Anacortes 4-1 Wednesday, March 21, 2007 but the Seahawks eked out a 2-0 non-conference win.

"I was very happy with the way the kids played, even though we lost," said Friday Harbor coach Rich Warin.

Matt Rothlisberger doubled for the Wolverines and Eddie Nash smacked a pair of singles.

Two Anacortes batters reached base on balls in the first inning, advanced on a sacrifice fly before the next batter bounced a ball over the Friday Harbor first baseman's head. The Seahawks scored their second run on four walks in the third inning.

All the Wolverines saw action against the 3A Seahawks, who list 10 upperclassmen on their roster.
