Friday Harbor sluggers thrash Bellevue Christian in openerStory and photo by Matt Pranger
Eddie Nash bashed a 2-run double as the Friday Harbor baseball team opened the season with a 12-5 thumping of Bellevue Christian at Hartman Field Saturday, March 10, 2007. "We were pleasantly surprised," said Friday Harbor assistant coach Steve Schramm. "We didn't necessarily expect a lot out of the team in their first showing but they played a very respectable game. We had a lot of successes." | |

"It was great to have a lot of fans out here in terrible conditions at Hartman Pond," said Friday Harbor coach Rich Warin of the wet, cold, windy weather. Friday Harbor went up 4-0 in the second inning on Nash's double off the left-center wall and Richie Ochoa's two-run single. Bellevue Christian scored a run in the third. Matt Rothlisberger responded by driving in a run in the bottom of the inning. Rothlisberger drove in two more runs in the fourth inning as the Wolverines broke the game open with five runs. Ochoa and Rothlisberger each three runs on a pair of base hits for the Wolverines. Cole Franklin singled and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Jordan Nash hit a single and had a sacrifice bunt. Michael Sandifer singled. Ochoa earned the win. He allowed one earned run, gave up four hits, walked one and struck out seven in three innings. Rothlisberger and Forrest Crawford each pitched two innings for the Wolverines. Friday Harbor next travels to Anacortes High School for a 2:30 p.m. contest Saturday, March 17.
