"We just came out and played hard, made some plays and the ball bounced our way," Mayson said. "We're not doing the stuff we all know how to do," said Friday Harbor coach Rod Turnbull. "We don't have a consistent offensive threat." After a tight first half, the Wolverines went up by 11 points near the end of the third quarter. They appeared to be on their way to another victory over their cross-water rivals but the Vikings outscored them 16-4 in the final period. Trailing 41-34, the Vikings started the final period with an 11-2 run. Friday Harbor's Brock McNairy, who led all scorers 18 points, hit sank a pair of free throws to knot the game 45-45 with two minutes remaining. A charging call negated a go-ahead bucket by the Wolverines. Orcas worked the ball to Mayson under the basket. He shot, grabbed the rebound and put it back, again pulled down the rebound, went back up, scored and was fouled. He sank the bonus shot to put the Vikings up 48-45 with 30 seconds left. Willie Clancy, who led Orcas with 14, and Aaron Flowers, added a free throw apiece for the Vikings. Flowers finished with 7 points for the Vikings, as did Andy Nigretto. Chris Troutman contributed 6. Kyle Wahlberg scored 4 and Thaddeus Gincig had 3. McNairy sank 11 of 12 free throws for the Wolverines. Tommy Fowler tossed in 10. Ryan Aylward had 7, Austin Scheffer 5, Pablo Lopez 4 and Matt Rothlisberger 1.
