Friday Harbor's football team improved to 3-0 by shutting out La Conner 39-0 in a home contest Friday, Sept. 15.

"La Conner has a class group of kids, a class group of coaches," said Friday Harbor coach Richard Ledford. "They played hard and we were able to out-play them."

Tyler Hart returned a punt 81 yards for a touchdown and also scored on a 37-yard run. Matt Rothlisberger scored on 14- and 29-yard passes from Cole Frankliln. Austin Scheffer rumbled 27 yards for a touchdown.

Spencer Satin helped preserve the shutout by picking off a pass in the west end zone and scooting 105.5 yards to the other end zone.

Friday Harbor compiled 331 yards offense -- 249 rushing and 82 passing.

Austin Scheffer gained 79 yards on 10 carries. Michael Knowles pounded out 50 yards on 7 attempts. Hart had 58 yards on 4 tries. Eddie Nash finished with 21 yards on 5 rushes.

Franklin completed 5 of 9 passes for 82 yards. Rothlisberger caught 3 tosses for 68 yards. Satin pulled in an 11-yard pass and Chad Radden had a 3-yard reception.

Friday Harbor's defense held La Conner to 170 yards -- 74 on the ground and 90 in the air. Brock Polda led the Wolverines with 7 tackles. Loch Stimpson and Willie Burns each made 6 tackles and Brock McNairy had 5. Andrew Scheffer, Austin Scheffer, Michael GrosJacques and Parker Lawson contributed 4 tackles apiece.

Ethan Mauldin recovered a fumble for the Wolverines.

In their first major test under the new Washington Interscholastic Activities Association classifications, Friday Harbor hosts Nooksack Valley (3-0) at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22. "Nooksack Valley is the largest Class A school in the state," Ledford said. "They're very big physically. They're large - economy-size."

Wolverine defensive back Spencer Satin intercepted a pass in the endzone and ran 100 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. The score is now 32-0.

Friday Harbor High School football team is playing La Conner at Friday Harbor High School. Andrew Scheffer scored a touchdown on a 27-yard run with 6:32 to go in the first quarter against La Conner. The play was set up by a solid punt return by Tyler Hart. The PAT was good. The score is 7-0.
